I was with Thumbtack when they first started. Made numerous bids never any word back. When they went to the $14 unlimited bid per month I tried that. Bid on everything and anything, high and low. Not one response.

Now there is a new scammer called Outsource.com. 15 to 20 jobs a day emailed to me. Submitted a few bids nothing. One thing I've notice budgets are ridiculously low. A website for a Home Health Agency and the budget is less than $500.

Here's another "job description" with a budget less than $500 - "I need a graphic designer freelancer that can draw/sketch mens apparel ( men's shirts, men denim jeans, polo shirts, t-shirts,and men's sports jogging suit and sportswear. Must have experience with men's fashions, sizing and various color combinations."

Just Google "online freelance companies" and nothing came up about them. They are advertising on Facebook, which is how I found out about them.

What a scam. Save your money.

Takes 9 "credits" to submit a scope question as most of the scopes are woefully specific.

Tried to get money back after first week. They told me "too bad".

Hi guys, I had to post something here because I'm on the other side of this and it still stinks for me. I was looking for artwork and hired two different artists, both with budgets of $500 and $1,000.

The first artist bailed on the project because they got a new job and moved, could not keep up with the schedule, and now the money is stuck in escrow and I haven't heard back on my dispute.

Second artist said 2 weeks for concept art ($1,000 budget) to be followed by a full series of artwork. That was months ago and we're still not done with the concept art and I've paid almost $700 so far, hoping that they'll come through because I feel like I'm past the point of canceling the job and trying to find someone else, and the artwork was really good.

While all this was going on I used elance.com and had 2 fantastically successful projects, best experience I could hope for, but maybe that's because I've learned how to better express what I'm looking for in job posts and set expectations from the beginning.

Sorry to hear the frustration from everyone, use elance.com, that's where I'm planning to post jobs from now on.

Sorry to hear that, but if you want a Professional Designer, you need to contact someone that is business and not on Outsource. If you contact a pro, you will get good service and they will not run away with your money. Outsource appeals to clients that don't want to pay much and designers that don't mind being paid a small amount, possible students.

I am glad to read the comments below, if only to validate my own experience and prove to myself that I am not the only one having a *** experience with this company. I too was suckered by the $20 bait and switch.

Since then, I have submitted quotes for $125 for everything from logos to websites, just so that I could earn back my investment. I have to receive a response.

I will be sure to tell anyone who asks that this is a ripoff. Sorry I ever clicked on that facebook ad.

They have 0 support. Not one quote gets any feedback.

I've been suckered in and I'm $100+ poorer than when I started.

As a freelance writer who is interested in working with Outsource, I appreciate the purposes of this webpage. I could not help but notice, however, that both the review and its corresponding commentary are poorly written.

If this content is any indication of the contributors' overall writing capabilities, I would question the validity of their claims.

Just to clarify: most of the people on here that are posting 'less-than-glowing' reviews about outsource.com are self-titled 'artists' or Graphic Designers; not writers or wanna-be 'writers'. Just so ya know....

These are all scams, (DO NOT EVEN TRY FOR FREE, TRUST ME) just to test this thing i even bid as high as $2000 for something and low as $50 for something that might have costed me $250, not a single reply, then when someone do reply, its like they want to do things, but they don't have the time or money...

My conclusion, the people sending you job request are the owners and members of the same company, playing the role as a customer (they should receive an Oscar award) People!! go spend your money on GOOGLE/ FACEBOOK AD.

I've gotten over 25+ request for my services (50% closing rate) from $150-$300 marketing.

You get real clients who you can actually talk to and are serious about what is being offered.

Final thought: If you "CANT" see your clients and your competitors DON'T join the site.

If you don't believe my theory about company members sending you job request READ "Angry Freelancer" review. Good Luck!

It is amazing that they do not vette out their "professionals"

Plano, Texas, United States #960929

I have tried both Thumbtack and Outsource. Both seem to only be marketing their services to clients who are looking to get work done on the VERY CHEAP.

They do not set reasonable expectations with their clients about what professionals should be paid and so I can only assume that the freelancers who end up getting the work are either rank amateurs or those with full time jobs and are happy to pick up a few bucks on the side. But for professionals, don't waste your time. You'll spend too much time and money reaching out to customers who have no willingness to pay professional rates, though they all ask for the moon and say they want high quality of work.

If you're a beginner in the business, Thumbtack and Outsource may be a great tool for you.

I'm just saddened to see the bar being set so low these days on what clients perceive as acceptable.

(thank you YouTube for that!), but guess there must be a lot of demand for low quality amateur work as these types of companies seem to be growing.

What freelance sites do you recommenend then?

I too had the worse experience with them, I was applying for jobs and never got only feedback after 2 weeks I decided that the $101 I spent (when I thought I only had to spend $20) wasn't worth it anymore I called and asked for refund, I was informed that I wasn't going to issued one even if I cancelled my membership. After fighting with a sales rep for a good 10 mins (she actually at one point put me on hold and pretended to get a manager and tried to play as the manager for a good 2 minutes until I pointed out she sounded like the exact some person I just talked too!) she finally gave in and told me that I could get half my money back.

you were quick to take my money out of my account but when you cant delieve the results that are promised you only want to give me only half of my money back?? I will never deal with this company again or recommend it to any of my freelance friends.

I'm very sorry to hear that you have not had a great experience so far and we would really like to work with you to help resolve the issue. 2 weeks is usually enough time to get realistic results from the website, which is why we provide a 6 month membership.

By doing the membership for 6 months, you will get a lot of opportunities to connect with clients and find work through the website. We have a great support team that is here to help you along the way with creating a great profile and sending out quotes.

We truly care about the success of our freelancers and I'm glad that you were able to speak to our representatives to figure out your concerns.

We typically don't provide refunds, but I believe that we were able to resolve this for you and gave you a partial refund for the remaining time that you had not used, not half. If there is any confusion, then please follow up with at support@outsource.com and we will be happy to resolve this for you.

I get over 50 emails a week. The same jobs written a different way.

It was a total waste of my time.

Liars, Liars...everything they say comes out of a script. I received an email with the exact same words a customers service representative told me over the phone. They just want to take your money and run, they DO NOT help you get jobs, as they claim. Scam Artists!

They get an F for ratings in my book.

They took over $130 from me and they do not want to refund my money. When I signed up, they had a money back guarantee. It is a lie, they told me that they will give me 6 months of free service when my subscription expires in 6 months and they told me to call back after 5 months so that they will not bill my card again.

This is just a legalized form of robbing you when you are just trying to work. Consumer Protection Bureau, that is where we all need to complain.

to Anonymous #978702

I have posted to social media sites. And will continue to post every few days for 6 months.

The $133 dollars they took from me is gonna cost them over 100 times the amount.

Everyone here should do the same.

Until they are out of business!!

You took from us Outsource! Now we will take from you!

Hamden, Connecticut, United States #955876

Scam alert ! Beware of this company !

As a couple of other people here have mentioned, they ask you to pay a small amount less than $20.00 but then charge your card for more. I was charged $137 which I did NOT authorize. Judging by the fact that others are having the same problem, it's pretty obvious this is planned. Charging someone's card without their permission is fraud.

No one picks up the phone when you call.

WARNING TO ALL FREELANCERS: STAY AWAY ! I will be contacting the California Attorney General's office.

I will tell our team to keep an eye out for an email from you.

A lot of freelancers are very happy with the website and are finding that it is a great source of work. I would really like the opportunity to make it work for you as well.

I would love to speak to one of the clients who "hired" a freelancer through Outsource.

to Outsource.com Support Team #989977

Outsource, you say that "a lot of freelancers are very happy" with no documentation whatsoever. You have to prove it,guys. I didn't buy in, so no money lost but on behalf of my fellow freelancers, you need to re-think.
