Ripped off
I hired a person from Thumbtack system and I got ripped off. I paid the guy as he needed to buy the materials and he did some of the work and it was terrible and then he skipped on me.
I have a lawyer and I am taking him to court. Thumbtack did not even have his email or name correct in their system. I will be out over $1000 in court cost and fees just to get some of my money back. I have talked to Thumbtack for help but very limited support.
I am now in the process of hiring a new person who is not from thumbtack. Be careful when using the site as the do not screen anyone out of their system.

Lack of accountability
i am a full-time professional clown and have been for the past 21 years. i have been a thumbtack pro for only a few months and will now end my association with this company.
I've been hired several times through this site; and always gotten 5-star reviews.....at least until today. today a client left me a 2-star rating with no comment. when I asked why, she said that it was because I didn't have my 2 live bunny rabbits at her party. she was wrong; they were part of my show and enjoyed by all her guests.
but she was not in the room for my show; so she made an incorrect assumption and, rather than checking with her guests or contacting me, she just posted a 2-star rating. I called thumbtack, explained that the rating was based on misinformation, and asked them to contact the client for a clarification. thumbtack refused, told me it was unfortunate but they would do nothing about it. I do not want to be associated with a company that has no respect for its professionals.
if there is a questionable review, thumbtack should care enough to contact the client and ask what went wrong. if they had done this in my case, the client would have told them she made a mistake. as it stands, I am punished because thumbtack doesn't care enough about pros to get a fair assessment. basically, I was told that clients can write anything they want and not be challenged.
who needs it? bye, thumbtack.

Thumbtack is full of fake leads generated by staff

I urge you to go elsewhere. I would get emails that always would eat up my last remaining credits no phone number for follow up go somewhere else.
do yourself a favor and don't buy into this sites bs no one will pay you. The leads are not real. And you have to pay ,money to bid on false leads I closed my account that is the way iot gpes

Hi,
I've been using thumbtacks now for about 4 months, spent a fortune probably around 50 quotes and have gotten 11 hires. However, 2 of those hires either haven't gotten back to me yet (2 months) and one actually had the nerve to cancel while standing on her doorstep with all of my cleaning equipment.
It's completely hit or miss I must say, and I live near Raleigh, NC in an outer rural area, have only 5 star reviews and been in the business for about 3 years.
In my opion the best way to grow your business in any customer service type biz is word of mouth, give every prospect business card/ brochure, etc. Yea but I definitely understand your frustrations with thumbtacks, pros seem to be held accountable through reviews, what about these "consumers"?
