There is no algorithm implemented to screen potential job leads, there is actually no screening system whatsoever. I posted a fake job in about 30 seconds with a disposable email address, not even a confirmation email required. The jig is almost up thumbtack geeks, better not rip off the wrong contractor, some of us have bad tempers and may be committed to having a word with you fellas in person.

If you sit and ask potential clients 58 questions to qualify the leads - do you think they'll finish the process, or leave the site and go find something on the Yellow Pages?

Qualifying the lead is YOUR job... Thumbtack has paid for itself every day that I've been using it.

When it stops, I'll simply move on. The site doesn't scam anyone...

if you don't have a good profile, nor reviews - you can't expect someone to hire you... that's what they're basing your qualifications off of - not your bio, but your reviews, and how many times you've been hired.

Of course there is no algorithm, its just a fancy word they use constantly. I did the same exact thing you did.

They will accept any type of inquiry from anyone.

Thumbtack flat out lies to their service providers and customers. The fake request I generated would have not fooled even a 4 year old, but of course it went through.

No Business As Yet

I keep getting alot of leads in my email from Thumbtack for my services that I listed this week. I do not believe the leads are bonifide. I sent the bid in but did not hear back and am doubting if these leads are real. There are no volume of business out there that clients input on a daily basis. If Thumbtack is a real lead source, let them give an introductory free offer to potential customers with the lead information to get the client referral business. If you don't think that people google things to find potential 'painters' or 'house cleaners' in certain areas when they're not really serious - you're sorely mistaken. They don't know we have to pay to send quotes to them - so they'll easily send a request they aren't serious about.

I've got two profiles...

one in Maryland, and one in Virginia - my Maryland profile flourishes with DOZENS of requests per day... my Virginia profile has gotten THREE requests in over a week... if Thumbtack sent out fake requests, wouldn't my Virginia profile get more requests? I think so.

Sorry, but you're wrong here - it simply doesn't work, FOR YOU. It works for many of us.

It proves basically nothing. Just because it (in some ways) works for you does not make it entirely legit.

Okay, how about this... I get hired at least ten times a week based - and buy a pack of 24 credits once a week...

that's $35... my hiring revenue? $1,000 or more. I've gotten MORE than a few jobs on Thumbtack...

I've been using it for more than three months and have booked solid every week I've been on it.

Just because it DIDN'T work for you... doesn't mean it isn't legit.

I've Answered MANY requests but NO business secured.

I get requests, I keep buying credits and making quotes. I know the quotes are competitive because I win bids off all my other sources...I am very much leaning towards THUMBTACK being a fraudulent organization/service. Prove me wrong!!! I actually received one hit from all my quotes and I cannot reach the prospect as they don't I answer their phone....hmmmm, wonder why that is? Are they real? I run a very large media organization as my full-time job, I believe I will turn an investigative journalist loose on the people behind this service. Whatever we learn about them, good or BAD, I will aggressively put out to all social media around the country. People work too hard for their money to be scammed out of it...don't you think?

What an abysmal service. Not only did I not get any responses after spending money, but someone who I never met, a client, give me a negative review. I never even spoke to that person and yet thumbtack would not take down that review which ended up showing on the Internet. Turns out other providers in my field got a similar negative review from the same client who they never even met or spoke with. Thumbtacks sucks.

Thumbtack intercepted an inquiry intended for my website and my services. They then tried to gain by responding to the inquirer!

All of this I hacve the digital record.

It is a federal offence to intercept other's communications and to use them for the violator's advantage. I have sent this report to the FBI.

I may have to take Thumbtack to court.

If a class action is filed, anyone who has been so harmed is welcome to come on board. This company and its illegal activities needs to be stopped!

I've had the same issues I set up my friend to sign up and look for me so I can see if it really works...comes to find out she never viewed my quote but said it was viewed which never was so here I am coming out of pocket to send quotes how ridiculous this was and how pissed I got thinking I could give something new a chance to get more clients this thumbstack app is such *** and a rio off to make money must I say it's the most genius way to get people to think they will get more work but get no responses bck from real people that need work done! I will never use or recommend this again they definatly need to get shut down!!!!!

I initially had my suspicions that this could be a scam but after developing my profile and building up my stats with hard work, I can honestly say that Thumbtack makes up at least 70% of my total business with very few marketing dollars going anywhere else. I have booked almost 200 jobs in just the last two years!

I have 80 5-star reviews that just add to my "snowball" momentum. I am averaging one booking in just five quotes.

This service is legitimate although I can imagine that there easily could be some bogus service requests since this service can be manipulated. I can only say that this service makes me money and is the sole reason I was able to make this a full time venture.

nope, the minute a "customer" looks at your bid you lose your credits ... win or no win you lose your money, thats why it sounds more like a scam than anything.

And dont say you "win" until the actual customer makes an order as email and phone communication is easy to fake just to pull you in thinking you are talking to real prospects. Again i am not in any way saying that i am 100% sure its a scam as you will never know who you are talking to until you meet the person and get paid for your work... just saying that a dollar here ....a dollar there ...

living off hopes of innocent self employed professionals ... is a pretty low thing to do.

Can't do their job

I have came to this site, at least 6 times for multiple things. Never once have they found once have they found a person. I have had open answers to where I found my own with the same stuff I was looking, but thumbtack couldn't find anything? Not even worth this website. It can't do it's job. I wait for hours to recieve soemthing. Finally get it and never have one place. I'm very angry and pissed off, I had stuff that needs to be done and one website cant do it. Why don't you fix your *** now! ok.

I was on Thumbtack as a professional wedding & portrait photographer. I have 30 years experience.

I started to get about 10-15 leads a day but never won on a simple bid.

I started to bid very low. My wedding package is $2900 for the lower end. I started to bid low at $450 for a wedding day including an album.

Not one bid won! Not even at that low of a price. Because they are fake leads. This place needs to be closed down!

People work hard to be spending money & time on fake leads! They are ***.

Never received a call from a customer.

After two weeks and quite a bit of money, I never received one call back from any quote that I submitted. And I purposely quoted very low on the last two to make sure that I received at least one call back. My site was beautiful and almost complete to attract customers. I started receiving requests for HVAC , roofing and other services that I do not provide. Now I will be contacting American Express to ask if they received other complaints and ask to help me get my money back. Hopefully they will help. I recommend that you show the Terms and Conditions policy to your attorney.

Luckily I found this before signing up with Thumbtack

Google and Facebook searches are such valuable tools these days. Besides all the complaints on here and other websites I found a Facebook page called thumbtack complaints. There are some very eye raising examples of Thumbtacks questionable business practices posted on there. Also they use the phrase "free service" its not free, thats a lie. Its free if you are looking for a certain service. If you are someone providing a service you have to pay a lead fee. In my opinion this is not made clear and people assume otherwise. I will stick to google ad words for my specific needs.

I submitted several quotes and heard back from one "client" but then they dropped off and it was radio silence. Several never even opened their quotes and at $8.00 a pop this is a GREAT way to lose money and NOT get any jobs. I am highly disappointed. Also, many of the people had almost identical writing in their request - as if written by the same person...

Review about Spanish Lesson Payment from Edisto Beach, South Carolina

My customer showed up late to her first Spanish lesson. She said in the hurry she forgot to bring the payment. I told her she could send a check. She emailed a few days later asking for my routing and checking acct numbers so she could deposit the money in my account. I of corse said no and haven't heard from her since.

For the clients looking for service professionals: I have seen complaints from customers who say they wonder if the people they hired really were professionals. Apparently, some of the so-called professionals were incompetent or just *** artists. That is just a warning...

thank you for posting your feedback regarding thumbtack. I had my email explode with emails, and I did not even have my profile completed.

I was concerned so I told them I wanted to close the account due to spam.

She told me they were all legitimate real people. Being a MT that travels can be risky so why increase the risk.
