Thumbtack Reviews
Thumbtack 1, little people 0
I don't usually go out of my way to post a review but this is necessary. I signed up for thumbtack a few months ago offering a service and started receiving quote requests from all kinds of people. It turns out, as other reviews will explain, the majority of requests are generated by thumbtack and are not actually real people interested in services. When interests search for a service, they don't get to browse and select who they want to work with. They can't even see your profile until you send a quote. This is not helpful for those of us who have legitimate businesses and can easily outweigh any competitors. The idea of the thumbtack is great, but the reality of how it works is really a shame. This is my advice to you: Want to waste some time and money? Use thumbtack.

Thumb Tack - Requesters Dont Exist ain WHITE PAGE SEARCH
I have setup a Thumb Tack account two weeks ago... My settings are for 50 mile range, my company provides a wide array of end user and corporate technology and communications services. Firstly... I have never traditionally had women be the predominant individual within a household which requests computer or networking services! "it's generally a man which I receive service requests from". The number of residential requests even considering the 50 mile range seems disproportionately high, so high in fact that I immediately became highly suspicious of the scam which was potentially being run. So, prior to purchasing "any" credits from Thumb Tack, I utilized the whitepages search for every request which came in. I logged into whitepages search and accessed the city and ran a name search: virtually every name in every quote for differing cities came back with "ZERO HITS" on the search results. I know that this works as I use it anyhow for all of my website support requests, and the accuracy runs in the high 90% range, when I call people I have better faith that they are wo they declare to be online. THUMB TACK IS A SCAM! Google AdWords is highly effective and allows very granular cost and region controls, also it is worth it to setup a paid account at Merchant Circle, this site has brought many clients my way and it is not on any fee basis other than your monthly account subscription that you choose to utilize.

Hair by kat-Unprofessionally unreliable
Set up appointment for wedding hair trial. I get to shop in Baldwin which has a "salon for sale or rent" sign on it. Place is closed. Katrina arrives & tells me she has no key & the woman w/ the key was there but left!so she goes to the beauty supply store next door & comes back 20 minutes later to say they don't have a key & the other woman had an emergency! She had also set me up w/ a makeup artist she works on weddings with who was not home when I arrived earlier yesterday morning @ her home!she forgot & was in queens! Then they rescheduled for today @ my home @ 12. I get a text from kat after 12 that the other girl has a flat tire & will come @1. After 1 she texts me she has to reschedule! So I ask just kat to do my hair!she doesn't drive!!! How do u run a business like this?

I concur with others on here. It was my experience that the amount of leads generated by thumbtack were highly unrealistic. It's a shame because they are taking money right out of the pockets of people who are trying to make a business fly. Like most people on here I paid for multiple "bids" to jobs, which I feel were competitive. I also spent a lot of time building up my profile only to delete it within a month or so. I remain dubious about whether or not the "leads" are real paying jobs on the other end. Why wouldn't I get some sort of response from people asking to lower my price or what not. Totally suspect. There really should be some sort of governmental office that polices this kind of exploitation.

Find different way to make money. Freelancers should only have to pay that amount if they do indeed get the job.
Thumbtack - Leads Review
I have used thumbtack for about 6 months now. Out of the 25 leads I have bid, I have successfully worked about 10 jobs this season. They are legit and I am very happy with their services. It is good for smaller companies that yet to have a big referral base. No scam here.

Waste of Time and Money
On thumbtack for 18 months and I submit bids on a weekly basis. I have had ZERO revenue from my time and buying of credits. Customers either do not review the bid or they don't provide enough information that can result in a valid bid. They also DO NOT ASK the questions that you submit so that you in turn propose a more valid bid. If they cared at all about helping the businesses achieve success they would at least try and understand the industries they are representing and if the vendor has 3 questions, then ask all 3 instead of leaving questions out. The answers help formulate the proposals. I am not going to continue with this company!

Do not waste your money with these losers.
I live in a very small town (really small) I have run my own business here for over twenty years. Between my website, word of mouth, google ad's etc I have done pretty good. After signing up with Thumbtack I began receiving leads left and right. Several of the leads contained strangely spelled first names. Now for the reality check. It is impossible that I would get as many "leads" as I did. There is absolutely no way the demand (in this town and within a 15 mile radius) could be that high. The thumbtack leads outweigh the above mentioned methods (google ads etc) astronomically. I am convinced they are creating false leads, in fact I know they are. I have read review after review about this same thing. I know there are people on here (and other places) that support them. That is all well and good, but it still does not explain the suspicious activities I have experienced. It is only a matter of time until several things happen. #1 They get sued. #2 The bad press/reviews continue and it comes down on them like an avalanche. #3 An ex/disgruntled employee blows the whistle on them. #4 People do their homework and stop doing business with them. #5 There is a federal investigation and they are investigated for internet fraud. Take my advice and do the research, stand up for yourself !!! Shame on you Thumbtack, the days are numbered for you.

Thumbtack.com does not screen or investigate false negative reviews, anyone can leave a review even if it is false!!!!
Any one can leave you a review without a problem, thumbtack does not investigate or research the so call complaint, they simply allow the review to post and if you try to contest it they will not remove it... I should of just stayed with Angie's list I tried several times complaining to thumbtack but no response,I got a bad review by mistake and thumbtack will not remove it, the person even called thumbtack to let them know the review was for some one else and thumbtack refuse to take it out, unbelievable I ended up deleting my profile with them...... What a bad lead company unbelievable!!!

Thumbtack.com never screens or investigate false reviews...
In the service industry many times there is dispute concerning price, delivery and so forth, which is normal...however when there is a dispute (a disagreement) the first thing customers want to do is give a bad (negative review) thumbtack does not research the complaint or give you time to correct the situation before they allow the review to post!! My website site builder allows you to filter and approve reviews... Some reviews are from customers that haven't done business with and yet thumbtack post the review... I currently closed my account with them, I should of just stayed with Angie's list Lgs

Total Waste of Money and Time
I was contacted by Thumbtack last year to use their service that purports to provide "leads" that have been vetted and will generate business for me. I am a professional photographer with decades of experience and an excellent track record. After 9 months of watching this service bombard me with suspicious leads and spending good money to respond to many of these "leads" I have had ZERO leads accepted. I have had very few that I could even verify as "viewed". Basically, I've poured well over $100 down a black hole with these jokers. The one thing I've noticed during this time is a LOT of similar looking names coming up looking for different services. Also, my profile specifically says I do NOT shoot weddings and I keep getting wedding leads. There is no way to decline a lead based on the budget being ridiculously low and I have suggested they add this from the very beginning. My observation is that Thumbtack is a SCAM. DO NOT WASTE your time and money on this ripoff operation.

Costs, BUT WORTH IT
I've been using Thumbtack for a few months now, about three I would guess... while I wasn't happy about having to pay, anywhere from $3 to $7 to quote any given potential client... I realized quickly that 98% of ALL my clients have come from Thumbtack... and it's easily paid itself off. You have to stick with it for it to work, you need REVIEWS, and 'Hired X Times' and a full profile to make this work. You cannot have 0 reviews, and Hired 0 Times, and expect anyone to trust that you are worthwhile. Thumbtack has to make money somehow. And I've called multiple times to talk about how they need a disclaimer for people using the site stating that vendors have to pay for quotes... so maybe it will keep unserious individuals away from submitting a request. Thumbtack has by far been the best lead generating site I've been able to find, and use... I've had no success with anything else. Please give it a try for maybe a month before you believe these complaints about how the site doesn't work, or they just pocket your money. I'm making $1k a week, and maybe spend $35 on credits per week... Maybe I'm use to sales, and know you need to QUALIFY your leads before responding to them... you can't respond to everything - not everything is a good fit for you...

Review from Hollywood, Florida
So glad I did a search on this Thumbtack. I call customer a lot and say I just don't understand why I I do not even get one call back from anyone. I am extremely proficient and qualified in what I do and my response to the requests is amazing - but yet not one person calls back. It does not make sense. I call thumbtack and say people do not even call to inquire . Now when I read that many others feel the same I know for a fact these are NOT bono fuse leads they just are not good at all. It's a scam taking advantage of us amazing proficient hard working professionals
