The reviews are not real

I do not know how much this is helping me as the reviews posted are not reflecting true experience some times...and rated 1 reviews are hidden by 2 reviews stared 5 afterwards. Posting a review is also easy as i can do search of the project and get he reply from you. Any one can do it even with out getting the job done. How can I make sure that the reviews are real? Out of 4 projects, i hired from thumbtack, I got hit hard by 2 of them Antonio gardener in Nashville TN, and westside floors Katy Texas. I learned my lesson that the reviews on thumbtack some are true and some do not. The provider counter- story with a story that makes your review to look as if false, unless you follow the thread again and notify the support team. Thumbtack does not inform you what the provider counter-story was and dos not keep an eye on real truth. As it is subscribed by providers, all this seem to benefit only providers, instead of posting/ making true reviews visible like Amazon.

Stop bidding against small business and reselling the leads to them. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME ON YOU!!!

Customer Service has been ringing for over 13 minutes

I want to make a call to complain about their scam and that nobody ever responds to these jobs I get offered, and that if they open it, and read it I lose my money. So I am calling customer support, first call they hung up, second call they hung up after about a 5 minute wait, third call still ringing after 13 minutes. What a scam. I am so done with them. I think people create the jobs, read my quotes and take my money. They are not even describing themselves to be prepping for the tests that they should be given their ages. They can't even create an ad and make it look right. DO NOT USE THUMBTACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just the facts THUMBTACK

Seems to be a money generator for the actual "Thumbtack" staff. No one even knows whether any of these clients are legitimate.

I had a guy call me, take my quote for $14.99 and I never heard back. Yeah, it's a paycheck for the people who WORK for Thumbtack, nothing more.

Lawn Pride,Cole Blackburn

Contacted for flower bed, bed stone border, grass, sprinkler system, about 30,000 dollars Sprinkler System has to be reworked, the project description did not match the final results, the plants were mostly one gallon and will take years to fill in the beds. The company is very understaffed and Cole made excuses on why work was not done in a timely manner. They left of metal bed border and some stone work which was added to cost if product. We were told they would guarantee the job for one year,if we would use their service to maintain the beds sprinklers and yard. We wanted to do that but after seeing I could not depend on their word. I wasn't sure I could trust them. They wanted 1250.00 a month to maintain our yard and beds. When I told then that was out if line, they disappeared, and never checked the sprinklers or spay for bugs or weeds I have spent 500.00 to fix the Sprinkler System, had to replant grass in areas not properly done. Very disapointed you listed them on your top landscaper list, thanks Gary Culpepper

Thumbtack - Review in Professional Services category

I'm a CompTIA+ Tech. I was looking for a computer repair career. I spent a lot of time & $$ on my course, study material,, equipment to practice repairs on, & the exams. But I never sat one interview because I lacked the 2 yrs of practical experience that employers are seeking. But through Thumbtack.com I'm able to promote my skills, building my "practicaI experience". I research every request before quoting to make sure it's something I can handle. Though I enjoy making $$, These reviews are linked to my business name. As I'm just starting out, I strive to earn pos. reviews. Going above & beyond and even coming out of pocket if necessary. Case in point, A client needed his touchscreen replaced. It's a very new laptop. I did NOT do my research on this one. To make $45.00 and his good review, I spent 389 on another laptop just for its display to mount on his. He was very grateful. Now, he never left me that coveted review, but I don't have any negatives either! No, I CAN'T fake one for him! It's unethical and I have my standards. I do get refunded for quotes that weren't read. I did get a client whom I'd archived a month after she read my quote. The site support is excellent- they took care of a glitch in my review link right away, and also reinstated me when I accidentally closed my acct, deleting EVERYTHING! And I get enough jobs through this site to nicely supplement my income. I do have a full time job. Thank you Thumbtack- I love what you do! Cynthia Wright TechNOW! PC Solutions

Thumbtack doesn't recommend anybody. Professionals pay to quote prices to clients. It's up to the client to choose the professional.

it's a shame that some people just don't live up to the services that they are projecting.

I take pride in what I do the services I perform and the pleasure I bring my clients for for a job well done.

Thumbtacks Vendor Reviews are Inaccurate

If someone posts a positive review for a vendor on Thumbtack, it requires no verification. The vendor never had to send the alleged customer a quote through the Thumbtack system. So, you can have false positive reviews from fake customers. Great, huh? But, it gets better. If you used that vendor, and they did a bad job, they can get your review removed if they did not send you a quote through the Thumbtack system. Does it matter if you had to take legal action against one of the vendor's on their service? No. Be EXTREMELY diligent in screening Thumbtack vendors, as their reviews do not depict the facts.

Is Thumbtack Responding?

Is Thumbtack responding to any of this? I've felt something wrong and simply stopped bidding. I keep a watch on the requests, and have corresponded with one potential client. I will say though that may money has been refunded twice for the two times I did bid. I also created a project just to see how it works from the other end. I was contacted by contractors wanting to bid. So, I'm still not sure about this company. This site gives me pause and a reason to really be cautious. I've deleted my credit card info from my profile just in case.

I had the same feelings.i thought scam. But it has turned, its a great service.

You need to change up your responses. Change your credentials on what your able to do. Listen to them on advise. It worked for me not getting rich but all I can say is good things now.

Thank you thumbtack. Stay with it. It will pay off.

Plus no one ever mentions the relationships you gain. A+

I love you thumbtack . It seems that if a contractor doesn't get ever lead , your a scammer .

That's nonsense . People use company's like thumbtack to *** out the (up sales guys) . I've set my prices right on my page and job after job .

My customers give me great reviews and most of them give a nice $25 to $50 tip ...

I say let them cry and we make money .

It may be a coincedence but I kinda doubt it .... Albany and Brooklyn are like two hours from each other ... I find it hard to believe that someone with the same name asked from two totally different places... Within fifteen minutes of each other . And both dates are the 3rd..... I also saw a quote for wedding makeup on a tuesday morning in Nov... That is highly unlikely ... It is not even a holiday .. I have become very cautious with this company lately and now I feel even more uneasy... I didn't realize that costemers were being scammed until I came to this site ... I am MUA and leads are how I find jobs and they are taking advantage ...

I got two requests for a graduation party; both within hours of each other, same person, same location, but one was for a $100.00 per person plated dinner; another was for a $16 - $20.00 drop-off. I contacted Thumbtack for clarification and got back an email telling me the correct way to bid on a party.

I don't think they ever actually read requests for help; they skim it and send out an automated email that rarely touches on the problem but always assured how much they value input from professionals -- were that true, they'd take the time to read an email and identify the question being asked.

So as strange as these two requests were, I responded to the lower budget one, heard back from the customer who is leaving on a trip, wants a menu and to talk as soon as she gets back.

Sounds legit (sort of get a feeling for this after catering 32 years). There ARE really clients out there but getting harder to find legit ones, and I guess I'm on my own to figure out why there were two such different requests from the same lady.

Your situation was even stranger than mine.

Thumtack is a ripoff

I am a handyman in central florida. I have made several bids for jobs, and have paid for my credits. I have never received a reply from anyone that I gave a bid too. I even sent a message asking for more information for what the customer wanted done...NOTHING. I tried bidding $300 for a $500 dollar job, NOTHING. I bid $1.00 (one dollar) for a $200 dollar job, never heard anything back. All the time I had to pay for credits just because the customer looked at my bid. I would love to get some jobs. but I'm tired of waisting my money. What other company just gives a bid over the phone or internet without going to see what the job is. If my air conditioner breaks down, I call a professional to come and look at it and give me a price to fix it. Do they ever say on the internet , ok we will fix it for $200 when it's a $5000 dollar job..NO, they come and look at it first then give you a price. We should be allowed to go to the home and give a proper estimate, if not get our money back for the credits we paid for. I won't use it untill something changes to benefit the handyman.

I do believe that you can pay for the lead and just request more information instead of giving a quote. Also, you may want to customize your message when you accept a lead. The message should clearly say that you need to do an on site consultation but then also give a bid in your message based on what you think may be needed.

#881519

I can definitely relate as I also fell into the Thumbtack trap. How is it that out of all those "people" you're sending a quote to, that no one is interested in hiring you?

In my case it appeared the competition was sending phony requests in order to see my information and compare quotes.

I became more suspicious when the number of visitors to my website correlated every time I sent a new quote.

Needless to say, I deleted my Thumbtack account today.

#1449449
@PissedConsumer881519

I am very close to letting mine go because it is a lot of work for very little turn out. I do believe we have gained 5 new clients and have more than made our money back but the market is competitive and ANYONE can pose as a professional just to get a job.

My company have been with Thumbtack for almost 3 years. I have never been ripped off, when I have a question I ask it and get a prompted reply.

We make money with Thumbtack everyday.

We buy our credits and take the leads we want. I make money on at least 70% of the leads I receive.
