Thumbtack - Leads Review from Los Angeles, California

Fraud - have seeing duplicates leads. Thumbtack.com is definitely a phony business providing fake leads. Like the others I experienced, the very moment I paid for credits leads increased significantly. They are either using a zip-code based algorhythm or low paid actual people to create these leads. The leads that provided contact numbers after paying all suspicially canceled there appointments the day of. I would like all my money they have taken in the last few months. I will make it aware to them that I am contacting the BBB for investigation. At 3 $ and some change a quote I have been using this system for months and only received one service just doesn't add up I've spent hundreds!

Just wanted a par-time job, but looks like I was going to lose money before I started!

I thought I was signing up to a site that would help me find work as a dog walker for extra income. I submitted my profile and that was a great start. I received a text asking for a quote, I sent my quote but didn't get a response. I received a second quote, I tried to respond, and what a surprise, I have to pay to send someone a quote. That was never explained to me. I'm not going to pay to send a quote to anyone. They also say, if your quote isn't reviewed, you will get a refund. Well I thought that's how you pick someone to work for you, by looking at a price. I could understand if I had to pay if I was picked for the job, $3.88 adds up quick if three people review your quote and then find someone cheaper. I think it's a scam to get money.

Waste of time and money

Dont waste your time with thumbtack if you want to advertise. Save yourself the time making a profile. They charge you over $1.5 per a response when they expect only 1 in 5 to be legitimate reply. Thats an average $7 per a customer. From my experience its more like 1 in 12 are legitimate paying customers, thats about $15 per a customer. Google advertising or a newspaper is far cheaper and gets more views. Plus you put in less time to get far better results than thumbtack. Also not that many people use thumbtack to find your business. thumbtaack is bad

So Far So Good!

I have been on Thumbtack for about 2 months now and have been very successful. I did exactly what they told me and sent the link to former customers. I got pretty good reviews and started getting leads. I have booked quite a few jobs and have been very happy with the success. I have seen where people have claimed that they get strangely spelled names and think those are fake. I have gotten hired and paid by customers with unusually spelled names. Just because you are not successful on the site, don't ruin it for the rest of us. I enjoy my Thumbtack customers. I think if this company were trying to scam me out of the little bit they are charging me for leads, they wouldn't refund my money when customers didn't open my quote in a timely manner.

Money taken with no service

I hired Toni Delgado as a party planner through Thumbtack. She took a deposit from me and payment for a tent rental and I never heard from her again. Repeated attempts to get a response were ingored. As I've been reading other reviews it seems like the norm for Thumbtack. I should have read before going to the site. Toni and Thumbtack will not survive as businesses the way they operate. My party turned out fantastic but with absolutely no help or service from Toni or Thumbtack. There have to be other reputable sites that do a better job than Thumbtack. Buyers beware of this site.

INEFFECTIVE BUSINESS MODEL

Thumbtack provides 'blind' leads, that is leads that have NOT been qualified. I do not feel this is a particularly effective way to find clients of a caliber that I can profit from. Thumbtack is NOT thorough in their assessments of client requests, diligent in assuring that the requests are genuine and knowledgeable about the 'professionals' they are featuring on their website. Most people posting work requests are looking for 'free' information, do not understand what a professional designer provides or do not have the money for the work they are seeking. While I understand Thumbtack's business model, I don't feel it works for most genuine professionals. I also challenge their assertion as noted Fast Company Magazine: 'The company (Thumbtack) estimates it has brought $1.8 billion to service providers over the past year, based on 3 million projects with average quotes of $600.' Based on my experience and the wide reading I have done about them - not a chance. I feel there is a need for a legitimate 'job board' that companies can use to establish or expand their businesses - but Thumbtack is definitely NOT getting it right - and they are definitely NOT getting any more of my money !

Fake leads, and NO Return on Investment

This company charges professionals to respond to leads. The customer leads do not have to pay for the quotes, and I used the site for about 6 months, I paid money to send quotes, and I did not get one single response from ANYONE. This website has no quality control and it is a WASTE of money. If you sign up for this service you will have to pay anytime you want to tell someone your rates. The customers don't have anything to lose, they can make as many requests as they want. They can make a request today, you will pay to send them your quote, then they will change their mind about wantinng the service, or wait three months and make another request when they are ready. This website is a SCAM. Stay as far away as possible.

I dont understand how they raised 150 million and its fake. Venture capitolist dont invest in scams.

It doubt that its fake because if you actually test out the service as if you are a customer to a vendor (you), it sends a quote right to your phone.

Maybe your prices that you are sending out are way higher then the competitions?

Overall thought, I agree with your post because there really is no quality control & I'm sure they send out fake leads for a bit of extra capitol

The person that wrote this (creativeOutfit) should get themselves checked for multiple personality disorder. They state at the top "I doubt its fake" etc. At the bottom they state "Im sure they send out fake leads" etc.

THUMBTACK is a BAD Site for CUSTOMERS!

I submitted a request to Thumbtack for a quote for a garage door replacement and installation in the Miami area. This was the response I got from this site: "We sent your request to garage door specialists in your area, but unfortunately, no one was available, interested, and qualified to complete your project." REALLY? Then why do they advertise??? Do they just want your information to sell it to someone else? As a bona fide CUSTOMER, I will never use this site again & will make sure to alert all my friends not to waste their time. What is wrong with this site????

Thumbtack 1, little people 0

I don't usually go out of my way to post a review but this is necessary. I signed up for thumbtack a few months ago offering a service and started receiving quote requests from all kinds of people. It turns out, as other reviews will explain, the majority of requests are generated by thumbtack and are not actually real people interested in services. When interests search for a service, they don't get to browse and select who they want to work with. They can't even see your profile until you send a quote. This is not helpful for those of us who have legitimate businesses and can easily outweigh any competitors. The idea of the thumbtack is great, but the reality of how it works is really a shame. This is my advice to you: Want to waste some time and money? Use thumbtack.

Thumb Tack - Requesters Dont Exist ain WHITE PAGE SEARCH

I have setup a Thumb Tack account two weeks ago... My settings are for 50 mile range, my company provides a wide array of end user and corporate technology and communications services. Firstly... I have never traditionally had women be the predominant individual within a household which requests computer or networking services! "it's generally a man which I receive service requests from". The number of residential requests even considering the 50 mile range seems disproportionately high, so high in fact that I immediately became highly suspicious of the scam which was potentially being run. So, prior to purchasing "any" credits from Thumb Tack, I utilized the whitepages search for every request which came in. I logged into whitepages search and accessed the city and ran a name search: virtually every name in every quote for differing cities came back with "ZERO HITS" on the search results. I know that this works as I use it anyhow for all of my website support requests, and the accuracy runs in the high 90% range, when I call people I have better faith that they are wo they declare to be online. THUMB TACK IS A SCAM! Google AdWords is highly effective and allows very granular cost and region controls, also it is worth it to setup a paid account at Merchant Circle, this site has brought many clients my way and it is not on any fee basis other than your monthly account subscription that you choose to utilize.

Yeah, that service is highly suspect. I got a ton of requests at first, they were usually from the 'burbs and had foreign names.

And mostly men, where in my business, most of the inquiries come from women. There are occasional real customers on Thumbtack; I finally got one, and made back the credits I purchased. After that, I didn't buy any more credits. Once I quit purchasing credits, my so-called leads dwindled to almost nothing.

So I just cancelled my account.

I can't believe this business hasn't been busted. So many complaints.

#878239

I have paid about 9 months constantly to this website, and have not even ONCE got a client. I dont recommended, I have probably spend about $600+n in credits.

Hair by kat-Unprofessionally unreliable

Set up appointment for wedding hair trial. I get to shop in Baldwin which has a "salon for sale or rent" sign on it. Place is closed. Katrina arrives & tells me she has no key & the woman w/ the key was there but left!so she goes to the beauty supply store next door & comes back 20 minutes later to say they don't have a key & the other woman had an emergency! She had also set me up w/ a makeup artist she works on weddings with who was not home when I arrived earlier yesterday morning @ her home!she forgot & was in queens! Then they rescheduled for today @ my home @ 12. I get a text from kat after 12 that the other girl has a flat tire & will come @1. After 1 she texts me she has to reschedule! So I ask just kat to do my hair!she doesn't drive!!! How do u run a business like this?
