Thumbtack - Snow Removal Review from Owings Mills, Maryland

Request for snow removal long island ny, after several texts with Dan Sleszynski, agreed on price for 2 houses, first snow, didnt show, answer phone or text mssges. Because I realized he might be busy I called and even asked for snow removal on the second day after the snow, no response at all. Left me with a rental house with one very unhappy tenant. If he even called and explained why he couldn't do it would've been better than no contact at all. Don't go with this guy or thumbtack.

I'm was skeptical about all the negative reviews until a received a strange phone call from another "personal trainer" (which I am) from Dallas Texas. I asked how he got my cell phone number and he stated he called Thumbtack's 1800 number and they directed him anonymously to me. I asked what he wanted and all he had to say was how I should keep sending in bids because thats how you get business and he kept repeating himself even after I asked what type of trainers certification he had. Quite frankly if this isnt a case of schilling, I don't know what is. Im canceling my account.

Yea pretty much. That's what they do.

I have nothing but 4 and 5 star reviews. Something like 20 of them.

Then one customer complaint and before they even hear my side of what ACTUALLY was going on. Bam they closed my account.

Face it and come to terms with it. Thumbtack caters to NON LICENSED CONTRACTORS. More then 60% potential clients respond to this question, either No or Not Sure, that they want a Professional Licensed and Bonded Contractor.

I signed up, and when I submitted my questions. I received an error message. It took me 40 minutes. And I lost all my information. Thumbtack, delivers late responses, and the bids have already been submitted, and so what did I get. Not a thing, in fact I asked them to delete my account for SMO Worldwide. Something is very strange about there tactics, maybe they were having a bad day. Their customer service reminds me of a cell phone carrier, where they are real nice, understanding and will tell you anything. To make a person happy, then you hang up, and see nothing has changed. Like I said...The Nail or the Thumbtack??? Nailed It!!!

I had requested a cater for a private function and was given several different caters to select from. I specifically listed all details of the function. Number of guests, Times needed, and what type of menu we were looking for. I received several quotes and after viewing the quotes I selected Happy Chefs with a price of $300.00. After several emails a menu and details of the functions were sent. With one exception. Ummm. Most important factor which Chef Jay omitted was the confirmation of the total cost. Well after many requests I was finally given the cost of $30.00 per person. This was almost $600.00 more than his original quote. A true Bait and Switch tactic. BEWARE!!!!

Solicited for carpentry work for a garage cabinet installation. Received an INSTANT email indicating that "We do not allow requests that are: From a minor under 18, Not in English, Requesting bartered services, Requesting a full-time job or internship, Requesting an individual professional, Inappropriate or scammy". Mine were none of these and I was genuinely looking for a service. Thumbtack would do well to actually read their emails. Thumbtack Hurts The Online Business Community

I have been using Thumbtack for a number of years and have watched their pricing structure go up and up and the number of responses to my submitted quotes plummet. Most of the people seriously underbid the work in my category, photography, and are by no means professional photographers, as I am. I know this to be fact because on a number of occasions I have intentionally underbid requests and received no response. I also suspect Thumbtack suspect Thumbtack scams people by intentionally posting bogus requests. I do not trust Thumbtack and I advise you to use extreme caution if you decide to use this online service!!

i personally think that this is the case with them. I keep posting a bid and charge a little less and still i dont get hired.

I have been using thumbtack for while and i notice i normally dont get back all of credits. Further, like a person said here, i think and i also believe, thumbtack keep sending bugus tickets just to make money on me.

I dont even get hired at all. I place a bid and try go low as i can and still i dont get no jobs. What the *** these customers think that i going to charge $80 or less to go and pick up their furniture and on top of that i have to also assemble it?

How frikin nice!! Go and frikin hire a few mexicans you *** fools

As a business owner, I have had very little success with Thumbtack. I have noticed that 95% of the jobs that I bid on, you not only never hear back from them you also never know if they are real or serious about the service they are shopping for. Some of the names are somewhat outlandish and seems like Thumbtack isn't screening them.

Totally agree. I think it's all a scam.

Thumbtack makes up names and sends out notices to get you to pay for credits. That's how they make their money.

Doubt there are real customers out there. I'm deleting my account.

I have not had any luck with Thumbtack. Most of the time when I'm notified of a lead via text, the maximum amount of biddings have already been met.

For those leads I've purchased over the past year, I have not had any luck.

Half the time my replies to potential clients do not get sent. I hit the submit button and they don't seem to go anywhere, I am removing my information immediately!

Thumbtack isn't worth trying as a professional. It's not balanced. The consumer has all the power and most often they don't take it seriously because it's free as a consumer. As a professional you're paying thumbtack for constant disappointment. I used the site for over a month and I put in hundreds of dollars to buy their credits and I only landed one job. When I had a problem with a consumer thumbtack %100 backed them and couldn't help me one bit. DONT USE THIS SITE! You will be disappointed.

I have some insight for you. There is a facebook page if you search Thumbtack Complaints that you should post this on as well.

We also suggest Sidejobr sicne they do not charge any lead fees or credits. just honest to goodness willing to connect businesses with shippers.
