They claimed I had fake reviews.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

This is really concerning considering we had been on Thumbtack for not even 4 months and I have 40 reviews anytime I talk to a customer that I send the quote to on the phone and I book them I go into Thumbtack and I Mark myself as hired how is that wrong when I'm marking myself as hired and I have the client on our schedule I have their information but for some reason they seem to think that my reviews are fake not to mention they never once reached out to see and verify that these were actually real customers that we actually helped. They claim they did this manually they also claim that they sent me a notice in September and they also claim they also sent me another notice the only notice I get is from Jen how to make your profile more appealing people want to see photos those are the only messages I see I think you guys are a big rip off and the fact that you guys are shutting down a business for no legitimate reason you guys have nothing to stand on to support your allegations and you guys are taking my business away you guys are a real piece of work.

And not to mention I had a friend set up just to see and view our quote and she never viewed it but it showed on my end that she viewed it that is very illegal to intercept a conversation between a professional and a lead looking for services that I am providing. And not to mention I'm spending anywhere from $100 a day on Thumbtack so I'm spending close to $700 a week and you guys are shutting me down but you guys seem to think that everything is fake on my reviews but you guys never reached out to me you guys need to start doing your work and start reaching out to your professionals to see if these are actually verify customers before you guys go shutting someone down permanently.

Invest your money wisely...

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Despite my reservations for some time i gave it a shot. Over the past year ive observed their level of greed. I was aporoached by them to participate in a program as a preferred vendor. Trust me it didnt go well. Exploiting small businesses. It appears this has become the norm. Recently their cost per quote is reflective of the clients proposal. Basically...no flat fee...its commision based. I could go on....

They create fake jobs and customers

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
They create fake jibs that you bid on, they will view quotes but they never hire a pro. This makes it so you cant get the refund for your bid. And since no pro is ever hired thumbtack is the only one making money and its off the pros

Thumbtack's fake leads are so obvious

Thumbtack is a scam without a shadow of a doubt. When you've run a business for 10-15 years you get to know your market intimately and you get a good idea of the average job request and the form they take.

So when you see the job requests that Thumbtack send you, and they're completely different from the job requests you're getting from your website, if alarm bells don't ring in your head then you're asleep at the switch. As an example, I run a pet care business and we get a lot of requests through the contact form for cat feeding jobs. In 15 years in this business I don't think I have ever received a single request from a real person asking to feed their cat twice a day. It's ALWAYS once a day.

With Thumbtack however, I frequently got quote requests asking for a price for two feedings a day. These are not real people, they're automated requests generated by an algorithm. Thumbtack has obviously programmed a set of parameters for each industry type into its algorithm but since they have no hands on experience of these industries, they don't understand the subtle nuances which make a job request sound real. Here's an analogy which the musicians among you may understand.

There are computer algorithms which purport to "humanize" a computerized drum beat by randomizing the timing slightly, to mimic the way a real drummer's hits are not exactly on the beat. But it NEVER sounds natural to a real drummer or anyone who has intimate knowledge of how a real drummer sounds. It can never replicate the correct "feel" to those in the know. And so it is with Thumbtack's attempts to create random job requests from an algorithm.

I'm not buying it, and many other people I know in my industry say exactly the same thing. But it's so much more than that. Not only do you get to know what average job requests look like, but you also get a sense of how frequently people respond to your quotes. With the requests we receive from our website, we'll get a response from virtually every inquiry we receive, and the vast majority of them get us hired.

With Thumbtack, we'll be lucky if 1 out of 30 quote requests are responded to. Why? Because among the few real job requests they send you, there are a sea of fake ones just itching to cheat you out of the credits you pay an arm and a leg for (and recently they have drastically raised the number of credits it takes to send a quote, claiming in their canned corporate justification that the new credit system is better for everyone). You might get the odd job off Thumbtack.

And those extremely infrequent jobs persuade you to keep buying credits. Then you throw most of those credits away on fake job requests.

Don't listen to the canned response from the Thumbtack "damage control" flunkies - they obviously spend their day Googling "Thumbtack scam" in order to find pages like this to spew their lies on. Thumbtack is without a shadow of a doubt a scam.

I will never waste my time with this outfit again. Had a Pro lined up for a job only to receive a message from this Scam central that the Pro had cancel just hours before scheduled appointment on the same day then worded the message to appear like I'm the one who canceled. Stay away from Thumbtack!

Guest

Thank you for the message- I have been trying to stop thumbtack to not send me leads...I am not registered with them- So this was helpful

Guest

Wow, so negative over cat feeding. We dee our cats 2-3 times a day.

Guest

Thumbtack's way of charging for leads is stupid. Why should I be charged almost $60 for a customers response even if I'm not hire for the job. I can understand being charged if I get the job.

Thumbtack SUCKS & is FAKE

Thumbtack does scam their clients

Kagan Brg

The person or persons behind Thumbtack need to be eradicated from Earth. If ppl like them got harsh punishments such as the death penalty, we wouldn't be scammed left and right by these pieces of shit...the reason scamming goes rampant is because the biggest scammers and fraudsters are the ones running "our" country...

Guest

These companies are on the rise, taking pleasure in profiting off the backs of others. I would suggest spending money on advertising and old fashioned guerrilla marketing. Stop giving away your money

Guest

I agree 100%. Going to look into a class action.

Same exact experience here. They should be shut down!

Im a Pro - Why it only works marginally but could work much better

My experience with Thumbtack is that it works about 10% of the time. Period. for my field, Life Coaching, they should be asking questions that actually drive up the possibility of getting the customer and the pro connected. They miss the mark 100% for Pros in the field of coaching. There is a HUGE difference between Career Coaching and Personal Development Coaching which they only have as "career, positive habits and relationships, or stress management" as the possibilities for attracting Pros to requests. People do not know what kind of coaching they need or are looking for even if they think they do. Its not like Carpet Cleaning or Plumbing. There should be questions that help the customer select from a more comprehensive life of questions so that the right Pro can respond. However, if Thumbtack is most interested in taking money from Pros and leaving the customer hanging with the wrong type of Coach responding to them then i guess its a win win. They get their money. Thumbtack should be doing more research and developing a much more directed and well thought out process for the customer and the Pro. All in all it has been expensive and hit or miss with little to no information on what the customer thinks they need or want. Impossible to know that from how its set up now. I do not recommended.

Not Worth It

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
They charge for quotes, and 99% of the time, you're out your money, because the potential clients don't bother to reply. They also require a background check where you are REQUIRED to submit sensitive information electronically. That was a dealbreaker for me! Marketing through Thumbtack.com is a waste of time and money. Don't do it. {{Redacted}}

Go somewhere else!!! Thumbtack has good customer service but they kind of have to, bc a large percentage of the “pros” they allow to advertise are out and out crooks. They know about the problem. I’ve been ripped off 3 times, this last one for $1,000. I’m done. Yes, I was stupid to try again, I know so don’t slam me.

A waste of over 3 years! And time and money..

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
After over 3 years with thumbtack, setting up 3 different businesses and spending lots of money, they have deactivated my account because of wrongs that a contractor that I referred to thumbtack has done. This contractor had hired and used our dry wall company to work for him for over 5 years without a problem and then late in 2016 we waited 6 months to get paid. I started my small dry wall business over 22 years ago and we have never had a complaint. we are 5 star rated all over the Web including thumbtack. Almost all companies especially small ones rely on referrals to stay busy now I'm paying for referring someone to thumbtack.

I have been rippedc of by 3 different contractors I got through there over the past few years. I’m done. They do have great customer service, but it’s a shame I have to know that so well. They need to vet their pros better. I have a friend who uses Home Advisor, and she’s never had these problems.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I was told the agent asighnd to my case would contact me either on tousday or Wednesday, I called on Monday, it has been a week and have heard nothing. I am being black mailed by a client, and instead of being helped, I am being ignored and brushed off. Along with my acount being deactivated. As a result I have thumbtack clients who's scedualed jobs have been missed as a result of me not being able to to keep in contact with them because my acount has been deactivated. What options am I left with? I spend upwords of $500 a month with you guys, only to be brushed off and ignored. And then risk bad reviews on my other platfirmes because I am not aloud to talk to the costumers that I already paid for.
